Compensation and Pension
At Devine Family Care Practice, we understand that adjusting to life with a serious medical condition is difficult for veterans and their families. On top of managing health challenges, navigating the complex process of filing a disability claim can be overwhelming. Our team is dedicated to simplifying this process and providing the support needed to ensure a smoother, more manageable experience for you.
One of the key components in securing the benefits you deserve is the Compensation and Pension (C&P) Examination, a medical evaluation conducted by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for veterans seeking disability benefits or pension support. This examination helps assess the presence and severity of service-connected disabilities and determines how these conditions affect a veteran’s ability to work and carry out daily activities.
The C&P process includes two main types of evaluations:
- Compensation Examination – This exam assesses whether a veteran’s disability is related to their military service. The results are used to establish a disability rating, which determines the level of compensation.
- Pension Examination – For veterans applying for a VA pension, this exam evaluates non-service-connected health conditions. Eligibility for pension benefits is based on age, disability, and financial need.
During the C&P exam, our healthcare providers will review your medical history, conduct any necessary physical assessments, and document symptoms or impairments. The examiner will then submit a detailed report to the VA, which uses this information to determine eligibility and benefit levels.
It’s important to remember that the C&P examination is not a standard healthcare visit. Its purpose is solely for assessment, and the examiner does not provide diagnoses, treatments, or make decisions regarding benefits. Instead, the examiner’s role is to provide an impartial evaluation to assist the VA in its decision-making process.
